When you think about Stretch Marks, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Stretch Marks are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.
First off, many stretch marks just fade over time, making them much less noticeable, and some people can live with them this way. You can also cover them up with makeup made especially for that purpose. For those who want to do better than just covering them up, laser therapy is a promising option. The color of the stretch marks that need treatment will determine the type of laser a surgeon uses. One type stimulates production of cells that make pigment, another reduces the color of stretch marks.
Yet another type of laser therapy promotes the production of collagen which will increase the elasticity in the stretch marks, helping them to decrease in size. Stretch marks are caused when the skins elasticity is stretched beyond its limits. This usually happens when a person grows to rapidly, like during puberty. Other times which people grow to fast is during rapid weight gains, like during pregnancy. It is the dermis, the skin’s middle layer, that sustains the damage during these rapid growth periods. (You actually have three layers of skin: the epidermis, which is the outer most layer; the dermis, which is the middle layer; and the subcutaneous layer, which is the innermost layer.)
Some people choose to use blue light therapy for their treatments. This treatment is also useful when fighting acne problems. This therapy removes stretch marks using a combination of gel and light.
People who prefer time tested treatments, there is always the option of using creams that help to restore moisture in the skin, repair collagen, and promote elastin growth. These creams typically contain ingredients like cocoa butter, wheat germ oil, lanolin, and/or vitamin E. It is important to note that if you plan on simply using these creams, they are most effective during the time that your skin is being stretched. The creams can help keep you skin soft, supple, smooth, and elastic. With this in mind, if you are going through a time that you are susceptible to getting stretch marks, think about prevention. If it is too late to prevent stretch marks, you will want to start using creams as soon as possible after they have already developed.
You won’t find a guaranteed cure all for stretch marks, but there are ways that you can use these methods in concert to prevent them or minimize their appearance. After all, it’s not like stretch marks are putting your life in danger or diminishing your health. They’re simply inconvenient and frustrating to many of us.
