The health market is saturated with fad diets and magic pill gimmicks that leave many people scratching their heads. We all know about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, but with the constant barrage of advertisements coming our way how do we tell what is a scam and what is legit?
Well, I’m here to tell you that there is a way to help sort out this mess. The following is a list of some of the most important guidelines one should follow to lead a healthy lifestyle and control your weight.
Fruits/Vegetables – The majority of Americans fail to get their MyPyramid recommended amounts of fruits and veggies per day. Actually you there’s a good chance that you will need to double the amount you are currently eating. Luckily, there are some easy ways to get more fruits and veggies in your diet. Fruit and veggie smoothies are an excellent and tasty way to get more in. And it’s easy to sneak them into casseroles, soups and lasagna’s,as well..
Pass on processed – Unfortunately, processed foods make up the bulk of the typical American diet. The problem is that these types of foods pass on little to no nutrients and they don’t fill you up for very long so you find yourself snacking again a short time later. So, make the bulk of your diet unprocessed whole foods.
Calories In, Calories Out – Calories are the most important aspect of both losing and maintaining weight. If losing weight is your goal then eliminate a small amount, around 150-200 calories, from your diet by following a low calorie diet plan and regularly exercising.
Exercise – Combining a healthy diet with physical activity is the best way to live a healthy life and control weight. Aim to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day and if exercising just isn’t your thing try to sneak it in by taking the dog or the kids for a walk, for example.
